Listen to a screaming reel and picture a steelhead shooting out of the water like a torpedo. Does catching a 35 pound king sound like a fishing adventure? The destination for the serious angler fishing Lake Ontario is Wayne County, the center of the Great Lake, and the “center of attraction.” Wayne County fishing is a year round adventure. Spring time kicks off with steelhead action in the streams, and explosive brown trout fishing close to shore in Lake Ontario. Pike, crappies and perch are in abundance if you choose to fish our bays. Summer is the time the mighty kings put on their dazzling display of force. It takes a hearty angler to boat these monsters. The hot days also turn our smallmouth bass into eating machines. Bring your fly rod for the scrappy bass. The Erie Canal, which flows across the southern part of the county, is an angler’s dream with its wide variety of fish. The waterway has blue gills, crappies, large and smallmouth bass, walleye and monster catfish. Access is available along the entire canal. When the leaves start to turn the mighty kings head for the streams. The shallow water of Lake Ontario and area streams are home to kings, steelhead, cohos, and brown trout. Don’t think that winter fishing in Wayne County is slow. Not here it isn’t! Here we go, boasting again, however we have four major streams and they are full of steelhead, browns, and cohos. Ice fishing our bays has become a very popular winter sport. Sodus Bay, located in the northern part of the county is well known for its trophy pike caught through the ice, and abundance of the tasty perch. Yes, we do brag about Wayne County fishing. But, you have to realize when we have four bays, four streams, Lake Ontario, and a historic Erie Canal within our borders; it’s hard for us to keep a secret…Come Fish Us!! A complete recreational experience is available for the entire family. Fishing is paramount; however there are plenty of outdoor activities to choose from.  World Class Lake Ontario Pro-Am Team Tournament competition occurs from Sodus Point, the historic fishing resort in Wayne County.  For more information call 1-800-527-6510 or visit our web page at www.waynecountytourism.com Our fishing page is updated every week.
